How do I save a reference from the new PubMed in xml text file format?

How do I save a reference from PubMed in xml text file format? Impossible to get instructions in "new" pubmed..

Answer

The new version of PubMed does not include an option to download or save citations in XML format. Additional information on this topic is available from the NLM/NIH  New PubMed Transitions FAQ page.

PubMed2XL, a free web tool that allows you to download multiple citations in XML format, is available at https://pubmed2xl.com/xml/. Just enter the PMID numbers into the search box, one per row, and click the Download button.

You may also want to consider downloading PubMed citations to a citation manager, such as Mendeley, Zotero, or Endnote. The library offers a citation manager guide to help you select one and get started: https://guides.hshsl.umaryland.edu/citationmanagers

  1. The easiest way to download thousands of PubMed citations in an XML file is by using https://pubmed2xl.com/xml/ Just type the PMIDs in the box and Download the data. The site is free, there are no ads and does not collect any data from the user.
