Which references are included in the Reference List?

When including books in your references must they all be cited within the document to be include in the references? If I review a book for a paper (just as background) can I include it in my reference list?

Answer

It depends on what style guidelines you are following for your paper. If you are following APA style, you should not include in your reference list a work you have reviewed / consulted, but have not cited in-text.
