I need to find a research article and it has to be from a nursing journal.

Hello. I need to use a research article for a paper and it has to be from a "nursing journal." How would I search for this and ensure that the article is from the correct type of source? I was hoping to find one on cognitive behavioral therapy and depression.

Answer

The databases CINAHL and PubMed/MEDLINE have the option to limit your search results to nursing journals. You will want to run your search first and then limit (or filter) to nursing journals.

In CINAHL/EBSCO:

  • From your results list, under the Refine Results vertical menu on the left, click Show More to see all available Search Options.
  • Look for the option Journal Subset, and select Nursing from the alphabetic list.
  • Click Search to apply the Nursing journal limit to your search results.

In PubMed MEDLINE:

  • From your results list, click on Show additional filters, select the option Journal categories, and click Show. Journal categories options will appear in the filters menu to the left of your results.
  • Select Nursing journals to apply that filter to your search results.

In Ovid MEDLINE:

  • Click on the Additional Limits button above your results list to see the full list of limits.
  • Under Journal Subsets, scroll down to and select Nursing Journals.
  • Click on the Limit a Search button (at the top or bottom left of the page) to apply the limit to your search.
