How do I access the journals from your website?

Answer

The HSHSL's journals can be accessed from the library's databases or from the library's journals list.

From a database: You can access online journal articles from the library's databases by following full-text links or clicking the yellow "find it button" in your search results list. There are quick links to popular databases on the HSHSL homepage, as well as a link to our full A-Z databases list.

From the journals list: If you prefer to browse the library's journal holdings, you will want to follow these steps:

  • From the HSHSL homepage, click on Find Resources from the red horizontal menu at the top of the page to reveal the drop-down menu.
  • From the drop-down menu, select Journals & E-Books. (You will be prompted to sign in with your UMID and password if you have not already done so.)
  • Search for journal(s) by title, ISSN, or subject. (E-Books may be included in the search results; to limit to journals only, select Resource Type > journal from the Refine Results menu that displays to the left of the results list.)

Full Text Access options will show date ranges for available content. Follow the links to access available full text at the provider's site.

HSHSL Print Collection indicates a journal is held in the library's print journal collection. Note: HSHSL ceased adding print journals to the collection in 2015.

To see if the volume you need is available at the library, click the HSHSL Print Collection link to open the library catalog record for the journal. Next, click the Holdings link to display the years/volumes included in the print collection. You can use the library's Request Articles & Books service (ILLiad) to request electronic copies of articles from journals in the print collection. More information about ILLiad, including services, eligibility, fulfillment time, and costs, is available at https://www.hshsl.umaryland.edu/services/articlesandbooks.php.
